Facebook meets Jupiter/Uranus at the 19 September cafe!

One week ago, I gave in – and joined Facebook.

Blame my friend and collaborator,  psychologist and independent thinker  Emily Cutts, currently co-writing “MoreBitsFallOff.com’ with me. It’s all her fault: she belongs to the Facebook generation! But I finally realised that insisting on building up a healthy following for my four-section magazine “Writing from the Twelfth House” as I had done, on word of mouth alone, was just perverse. So Emily pushed me gently – and I jumped in.

At present, my tenth house Mars conjunct Uranus is being squared by the current Jupiter/Uranus conjunction. Can this be having something to do with it? I wonder ingenuously.

I went from being Friendless to having fifty-nine Facebook Friends  – all in less than a week. One of the mutual Friends who came up had a fetching moon and stars image instead of a mugshot. I liked it, inviting its owner Kenneth Irving to become a Friend. He accepted – and sent me a message saying he had written a review of “Jupiter Meets Uranus”, my 2009 study of Jupiter/Uranus conjunctions, at the end of last year. I am really pleased with this entirely unexpected review, another to add to the collection of positive responses to my book. Thanks, Kenneth!

So – the left field of Jupiter/Uranus dynamism and unpredictability delivers yet again, as in this very small personal example. After many years as a student, practitioner and teacher of astrology – these days mostly as a writer – I continue to love hearing the great music of the spheres, being played throughout space and time, on the large mundane scale and the tiny personal scale by the planets in their cycles.

Here is the review.

“….Jupiter Meets Uranus is a thoughtful, well-researched book that does a good job of answering the question of
what the combination of Jupiter and Uranus means, and it does it in depth and in detail. Highly recommended….”

Part Four: ‘Tales from the Wild Ride’: Jupiter/Uranus 2010/11

Welcome to the fourth installment of  “Tales from the Wild Ride”, the story of the 2010/11 Jupiter/Uranus conjunctions’ impact on a group of ‘ordinary’ lives, which will now unfold on a regular basis until next Spring 2011.

What Barbara, Eve, Fiona,  Louis and Maria did in the first week of June 2010, at the time of the Jupiter/Uranus conjunction on 8 June 2010, and the week which followed……

Personal Life

Did you experience anything significant of an inner/outer nature during this period? (Bear in mind that any planetary energy can strike a ‘dumb note’ with you, but be vividly observable in the life/lives of family or and/or friends and/or significant others)

(Please indicate which of the following 4 categories applies)

Very much so: 3/5
Moderately so: 1/5
Mildly so: 1/5
Not at all: 0/5

Moderately So

June 1, 2010
Finally got new lawn mower put together and grass cut.
June 3, 2010
Plumber came to repair sink in apartment. Cost: $300.

June 10, 2010
Alan’s computer in for repairs again.

June 22, 2010
Woke up with a severe upper-left jaw pain…lasted two days. Called Cardiologist for appointment.

June 23, 2010
Started an upper respiratory infection…head cold and coughing that lasted about two weeks. Had to carry on normal activities although I felt terrible.

June 24, 2010
Alan called me at 7:00 AM to tell me the ceiling fan in his living room had come loose and fallen during the night and was hanging by the cord. I couldn’t get in touch with my regular repairman, but did find someone to come and repair it later in the day.
By this time I was beginning to feel like Job from the Bible.

Your comments/summary on the first two weeks of June 2010:

I finally turned in my resignation form to my job of 10 years. In May, I had moved out of my apartment of 10 years as well, in preparation for a temporary move to Las Vegas. My former apartment manager told me to come pick up my deposit refund check. I was hoping it would be at least $500 but it turned out to be nearly $1350! That unexpected money was going to be a help in paying for my education program tuition of nearly $3000.

On June 12th I was introduced to a very intriguing man. He was very smart and that made him very attractive to me. I left so my friend and I could go to a  party. We got separated and I left the party and he was walking by as I exited the building. We began chatting when my friend was escorted out in a headlock and nearly arrested. We took her home and shared a cab ride.

After exchanging numbers he called me and we hung out a week later. He has not contacted me since. I admit, I was pretty much obsessed with him for a good two weeks after, wondering if I did or said something wrong. But I kept reading that the eclipse energy that hit my heavy Capricorn/Cancer chart was removing things from my life that weren’t for me so I finally let it go.

Very Much So

1-7 June 2010 Still on vacation till the 6th.  I Got a virus on my computer June 1st and I bought my Apple IMac on June 2nd.  I had been planning it for a while but the virus was the catalyst that sent me to the Apple store.  I spent the remainder of the week getting used to my new operating system.

June 7th was my first day back to work, very traumatic after a peaceful two weeks off.

8 June 2010 (the conjunction day): Nothing special this day.

9 -15 June  2010 Very hectic at work.  June 9th my cousin called and told me that my 84 year old aunt started to hallucinate and has been calling my both cousins ranting crazy stuff.   We wanted to take her to the emergency room but she didn’t want to go and wanted to wait for her doctor’s appt. the following Friday.  All seemed ok until June 17th when she called me, frantically hallucinating. I called my cousin to stay with her, she wasn’t much better, so we decided to take her to the ER to rule out stroke or brain tumor.  The ER released her and said it was mental rather than physical. She spent the weekend at my house until my other cousin from the west coast of Florida came over to stay with her.

Your comments/summary on the first two weeks of June 2010:

I found the first week in June very peaceful and the second week all hell broke loose.  Both work and my personal life were in overdrive and I had minimal sleep and was definitely running on empty.  I also had a huge blow up at work on the 18th and carried over to the 21st which I will get into on our next installment.

Very Much So

B) 1-7 June 2010 I noticed a lot of frenzied energy among my circle of friends in my normally sedate women’s poetry group.  An awful lot of bad health news among friends and acquaintances, including one shocking death of a Native American doctor who had “gone over to the dark side”.
C) 8 June 2010 (the conjunction day): I had a totally normal day going to the Bookmobile library where everybody was enormously and unusually social -despite my fears of driving there.

D) 9 -15 June On the 14th, I decided to abandon Septra and revert back to my homeopathic traing and do homeopathic treatment for myself. Lots more bad health news among friends and good news from granddaughter.  An extremely signifiant death of a friend on the 16th outside the dates given.

Louis (60)

Mildly So

B) 1-7 June 2010 : C) 8 June 2010 (the conjunction day): D) 9 -15 June

Your comments/summary on the first two weeks of June 2010:

period b) Choked up with work, not enjoying it though – mixture of stress and boredom. People won’t pay invoices on time, everything seems to be a hassle.  Strong feeling that the enjoyment has disappeared from my work though the interest in the subject if anything is growing stronger.  Happy to read and browse the web for inspiration – practicalities of work seem prosaic and mind-numbing.

conjunction day c) nothing of note

period d) same as b

Jupiter/Uranus in action: front line dispatches

Now that the first flush of excitement regarding the start of a new Jupiter/Uranus cycle on 8 June 2010 has died down, I thought it might be of interest to readers still following this site, to see from time to time some of the dispatches from the ‘front line’ of comments and emails I have been receiving since then, and my responses. This is ‘astrology live!’ It enables us to observe (outwith the main research project which will be taking shape behind the scenes as researchees make their day to day notes) some immediate impacts and reactions as planet Earth and its inhabitants move through a uniquely testing energy field.

I feel fortunate to have lively and challenging commentators!

The first two public comments and my answer follow a clear theme: the relationship between theories – in this case astrological theory re how the Jupiter/Uranus combo should play out in action – and empirical observation ‘on the ground’…..

8 June 2010 Jupiter/Uranus Conjunction

8 June 2010 Jupiter/Uranus Conjunction

Hello Anne,
Well, I’m getting rather confused and frustrated. I have never gone through this transit without seeing an impact on my personal life…and yet, this time, nothing. I realize Jupiter/Uranus will conjunct twice more, but I usually have significant “hints” in the area of activity by this point. Any ideas?
from Sherry

Sherry, I feel similar to you. I’ve had Jupiter and Uranus in the 5th house and it has been fun (lots of party invitations) but nothing life-changing YET. Keep in mind that there will be a lunar eclipse on the 26th-27th. So that could be the turning point needed for the conjunction to take full effect. We’ll see…

from Shana

Anne replies….

Hi Sherry and Shana

apologies for delay in reply. I have had one of my periodic switch-offs from computing – necessary to preserve tendons and sanity!

Your feedback clearly shows why we should do research as astrologers.

We only have to look at scientific theories to realise how marked the human tendency has been historically to take a theory as the truth – and not wish to contemplate contradictions. Look at what happened to Galileo in the 17th century when he challenged via his empirical observations the long-held Ptolemaic theory which endorsed the Catholic Church’s view that the Earth was the centre of the solar system!

My research on the Jupiter/Uranus conjunction in mid-February 1997 at 6 deg Aquarius, showed that of  17 researchees, 12 experienced inner/outer manifestations of the conjunction’s energies which supported the theory of what SHOULD happen, around the time of the conjunction: but five of them did not. Yet by the end of the research period of 1997/8, most of them reported very significant life changes in line with astrological theory. The stronger the Jupiter/ Uranus natal signature, the more dramatic and unexpected were the life changes.

So you can perhaps see from this why we need to take notes on what happened, if anything– or nothing – around the days preceding and following the conjunction; and at times when it is triggered off. Shana is right to identify the upcoming lunar eclipse – also, times when the inner planets trigger the three conjunction periods should be significant.

Eg tomorrow the Sun moves into 0 Cancer, squaring the conjunction and setting off the whole Grand Cross pattern. The UK tomorrow will hear its emergency budget delivered by the new coalition government (in itself a Jupiter/Uranus political shock!) which has been described in advance as the most radical and toughest budget of a generation.

But we also need to be patient and take the whole year from late Spring 2010 when the conjunction first began to come within orb, until early Spring 2011 when it finally separates for the third time, and Jupiter moves on. Only then will we be able to evaluate its essential impact both collectively and personally.

I will be writing to you researchees soon. Keep taking notes!

Another five star review for ‘Jupiter meets Uranus’

5.0 out of 5 stars Fascinating Research for the Astrologer’s Bookshelf, 8 Jul 2009
by Leah Whitehorse 1.7.09

I read “Jupiter Meets Uranus” in one sitting. Anne Whitaker’s writing style is so engaging, her research so fascinating that a lot of the time the book reads more like a novel; a page turner of the astrology world.

I have to say that I’ve never been hugely interested in mundane astrology – much like I have never been one to watch the news or engage in any kind of political thought whatesoever. At school I loathed the history of the industrial revolution and the interminable time spent on ‘Peat Bog Man’. What we learned seemed out of context and I felt no relation to it. Perhaps it is my Aquarian Moon and my overwhelming 9th house that pushes me relentlessly to look to the future.

So it was with these thoughts in mind when scanning the content of the book that I felt I would probably find the personal experiences of the the author’s research subjects more interesting than the collective experience. I was wrong. Both were engaging in their own ways. Anne Whitaker achieved for me what my poor history teachers at school never managed: to show history in context of its cycles and give me a sense of meaning and belonging to the great over-arching stories that manifest over sometimes centuries in our collective experience. Where before there had only been boring facts and figures, now there were archetypal stories being played out on a grand scale, synchronicities beyond explanation.

The book covers the history, myths and legends behind each planet
giving the reader a wonderfully full picture of the energy of each. She then moves into generally exploring the cycles of the collective planets before turning to a more concentrated overview of the Jupiter-Uranus conjunctions. A meticulously researched section on the mundane happenings of when Jupiter and Uranus touched on the ‘hotspot’ in Aquarius that the author had identified kept me completely enthralled and also reminded me of long gone headlines that had managed to stick in my mind. For example – whatever did happen to the Raelians and their supposed cloned children? The connections that Anne found during her time of research were fascinating and sometimes staggering almost beyond belief yet there in black and white. It certainly stimulated the desire in me to look more closely at mundane astrology.

The often sparsely edited answers from Anne’s research subjects found me strangely touched. Here they laid out their lives in their own words, from death and disaster to love and goals achieved. From heartache to heart’s desire I felt moved by many of the insights and feelings expressed. One in particular who described much of his experiences through dreams captured my attention. I think I felt moved perhaps because it is not often we stop to think about our own lives and look through a long-view lens. Reading the unfolding stories of those who had responded to the author’s questionnaires over a period of time made me think a lot about my own story, the over arc that bridges what can seem like a time of devastation to a time of completeness. It is easy to forget, lost in the details of daily life, that there is a bigger story happening.

After a close look at the effects of Jupiter conjunct Uranus during 1997, the author then moves on the explore this in connection with the greater cycle of Neptune as the mysterious planet activated the hotspot point between 1999 – 2002.

Reading Jupiter Meets Uranus has left me with many tantalising questions. The author doesn’t spoon-feed the reader. She presents the charts of her subjects and their words and leaves it up to us to look further into it. Woven into her writing are quotes ranging from Shakespeare to Milton and some excellent recommendations for further reading. Certainly this book has given me a thirst for research and shown how much potential there is for further research into planetary configurations and cycles.

Anne Whitaker is a talented writer who stimulates the imagination of the reader whilst given them a wealth of information. You will be astonished by synchronicity and amazed at the astrological connections between for example  Dolly the Sheep and Mary Shelley or the discovery of America and the Moon landing. I look forward to reading more from her in the future.
