Jupiter/Uranus in action: front line dispatches
June 21, 2010
Now that the first flush of excitement regarding the start of a new Jupiter/Uranus cycle on 8 June 2010 has died down, I thought it might be of interest to readers still following this site, to see from time to time some of the dispatches from the ‘front line’ of comments and emails I have been receiving since then, and my responses. This is ‘astrology live!’ It enables us to observe (outwith the main research project which will be taking shape behind the scenes as researchees make their day to day notes) some immediate impacts and reactions as planet Earth and its inhabitants move through a uniquely testing energy field.
I feel fortunate to have lively and challenging commentators!
The first two public comments and my answer follow a clear theme: the relationship between theories – in this case astrological theory re how the Jupiter/Uranus combo should play out in action – and empirical observation ‘on the ground’…..

Hello Anne,
Well, I’m getting rather confused and frustrated. I have never gone through this transit without seeing an impact on my personal life…and yet, this time, nothing. I realize Jupiter/Uranus will conjunct twice more, but I usually have significant “hints” in the area of activity by this point. Any ideas?

Sherry, I feel similar to you. I’ve had Jupiter and Uranus in the 5th house and it has been fun (lots of party invitations) but nothing life-changing YET. Keep in mind that there will be a lunar eclipse on the 26th-27th. So that could be the turning point needed for the conjunction to take full effect. We’ll see…

Hi Sherry and Shana
apologies for delay in reply. I have had one of my periodic switch-offs from computing – necessary to preserve tendons and sanity!
Your feedback clearly shows why we should do research as astrologers.
We only have to look at scientific theories to realise how marked the human tendency has been historically to take a theory as the truth – and not wish to contemplate contradictions. Look at what happened to Galileo in the 17th century when he challenged via his empirical observations the long-held Ptolemaic theory which endorsed the Catholic Church’s view that the Earth was the centre of the solar system!
My research on the Jupiter/Uranus conjunction in mid-February 1997 at 6 deg Aquarius, showed that of 17 researchees, 12 experienced inner/outer manifestations of the conjunction’s energies which supported the theory of what SHOULD happen, around the time of the conjunction: but five of them did not. Yet by the end of the research period of 1997/8, most of them reported very significant life changes in line with astrological theory. The stronger the Jupiter/ Uranus natal signature, the more dramatic and unexpected were the life changes.
So you can perhaps see from this why we need to take notes on what happened, if anything– or nothing – around the days preceding and following the conjunction; and at times when it is triggered off. Shana is right to identify the upcoming lunar eclipse – also, times when the inner planets trigger the three conjunction periods should be significant.
Eg tomorrow the Sun moves into 0 Cancer, squaring the conjunction and setting off the whole Grand Cross pattern. The UK tomorrow will hear its emergency budget delivered by the new coalition government (in itself a Jupiter/Uranus political shock!) which has been described in advance as the most radical and toughest budget of a generation.
But we also need to be patient and take the whole year from late Spring 2010 when the conjunction first began to come within orb, until early Spring 2011 when it finally separates for the third time, and Jupiter moves on. Only then will we be able to evaluate its essential impact both collectively and personally.
I will be writing to you researchees soon. Keep taking notes!

….and a fresh Jupiter/Uranus 14-year cycle has just begun…..
AND – a new astrology study is about to commence (the sequel to the one I did in 1997), with a brilliant new group of volunteer researchers joining me to share their experiences over the next year.
But first, let me set a sensible context (astrologers? sensible? It is possible…) by quoting from one of the articles I wrote and published on this site in the run-up to the Great Event of 8.6.10 : (18.5.10: Jupiter meets Uranus, sky falls in: Yes,no….or merely maybe?)
“……It is an ancient human tendency to imagine that the end of the world or civilisation as we know it is just around the corner. Maybe it is – or maybe not. We don’t really KNOW what the upcoming Jupiter/Uranus conjunction and its attendant pattern will bring. It certainly represents a perfect backdrop onto which to project our burgeoning collective anxieties about the deteriorating condition of our culture and of our planet. But human life has always been turbulent, dangerous and often fatal, regardless of where the planets happen to be. So can we all calm down and just get on with life?
I trust that those few moderating paragraphs will have at least temporarily helped to reduce your blood pressure, and injected a rather needed note of philosophical detachment into your contemplation of the Summer of 2010……”
We also need to remember that, with any planetary cycle, the first time the two planets meet, as Jupiter and Uranus famously did on Tuesday, is just the beginning.
For example, in the ordinary 29.5 day cycle of the Sun and Moon, the two planets meet, in darkness, as they will tomorrow at 21 deg. 24 min. Gemini. It takes 2-3 days for the fragile crescent of the New Moon to appear, a sign in the heavens that the energy represented by the latest New Moon is just beginning to take shape and to manifest in the world. This is why traditional advice is to wait until a few days after any New Moon before launching a new venture of any kind. Before that, the energy is considered to be too fluid and unstable.
This general principle applies very well to the new Jupiter/Uranus conjunction at 0 deg.18 min. Aries. The energy created is dynamic, unique, door-opening, pioneering, fluid, quite unstable and likely to remain so for the best part of another year. The planets meet exactly again on 19th September 10, this time at 28 deg. 43 min. Pisces, with both planets retrograde.
Then again on Jan 04 2011, at 27 deg. 02 min. Pisces going direct. Jupiter returns to Aries on 22 January 2011, Uranus not until 12th March 2011. At this point there is a 10 degree orb of separation between the two – Jupiter at 10 deg. Aries.
Only then should we consider the conjunction to have done its initial mould-shattering work, and the new 14-year cycle to have truly begun.

So – anyone out there who is interested in seeing how we mere humans and our planet respond to the great music of the spheres – through the unique combination of notes of Jupiter and Uranus – keep watching this space!
In my book published in 2009, “Jupiter meets Uranus – from erotic bathing to star gazing” I presented collective manifestations of the energy of the Jupiter/Uranus conjunction at 6 deg. Aquarius, as well as the turbulent and unique life histories of my 17 volunteers during the 1997/8 period of the research.
This time, I am largely limiting my efforts to researching the lives of 20 volunteers. I simply do not have time to collect all the collective data I did last time. So – it would be great if followers of this site sent me comments with a brief explanatory note plus reliable Web link, to any collective events they considered to fit the Jupiter/Uranus in Aries terms of reference.
My colleague Jamie Funk of that great site FUNKASTROLOGY highlighted the 8th June 2010 USA-wide vigil of protest against the oil spill disaster in the Gulf of Mexico – surely the biggest, most shocking event of the build-up period whilst the conjunction was still in Pisces.
And just this evening, from my friend and colleague Jude Cowell’s brilliant mundane site “Stars Over Washington”,
Jun 10, 2010
House bill to protect US power grid – Jupiter conjunct Uranus
” In a flurry of perfected synchronicity, the House passed a bill yesterday (June 9) to protect America’s power grid – hours after June 8, 2010′s Great Conjunction of idealistic, expansive Jupiter and electrical, disruptive Uranus @ 00Ari18, the Aries Point of World Manifestation, Fame, Prominence, and Recognition….”
AND – my personal scientific highlights:
the first on 20 May 2010, just a couple of weeks before the conjunction was exact: Craig Venter’s company created the first artificial living cell – using highly sophisticated computer technology.
Second, on June 7, 2010 at 10:11 pm e, Sherry said: ‘ Here is an exciting piece of news from MSN: Chinese scientists have been able to “teleport” data over long distances using quantum entanglement. Perfect Jupiter/Uranus symbolism!’
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/37556750/ns/technology_and_science-science/
There is much, much more which I simply do not have the time to assemble. We are living in very fraught, but very exciting times…..
to be continued – keep dropping by!
IMPORTANT: EVEN IF YOU ARE NOT IN THE RESEARCH GROUP, IT WOULD BE GREAT TO HEAR YOUR COMMENTS ON HOW THE JUPITER/URANUS YEAR UNFOLDS FOR YOU.

The “Jupiter meets Uranus” site is taking an exciting turn as we move toward the new conjunction. I have in recent days committed myself (am I mad or what?!!) to doing a follow-up study from the one I did on the Jupiter/Uranus conjunction of February 1997 “Jupiter meets Uranus – from erotic bathing to star gazing“. (UK buyers, click HERE ) Have you got your copy yet?
I am approaching my quota of 20 volunteers who are “plugged-in” to the late mutable/early cardinal energy of the upcoming Jupiter/Uranus conjunction in Aries, and will be sending me their feedback on how it was for them as the observational year (March 2010 – February 2011) unfolds. It is fantastic that they are prepared to do this – and I will be treating their feedback with appropriate care and confidentiality, as I did the 17 participants in the previous 1997 research. So – keep watching this space to see a research study being invented before your eyes!
And there are still a few more places for volunteers with planets/Angles/ Moon’s Nodes in late mutable/early cardinal signs. Just leave a comment and I will contact you.
I have acquired some interesting and lively commentators, most recently Shana – of http://www.shanatinglipton.com/blog/. In response to a comment of hers, I have written a short piece on some contemporary events which I thought I’d share with the many readers of this site – in the spirit of “here it is – as it happens.”
from Shana June 2, 2010 at 1:03 am Hey Anne and friends,
I dunno if this constitutes the first celebrity Jupiter/Uranus moment but Tipper and Al Gore divorcing after 40 years of marriage seems kind of Uranus. And having his tropical sun sign in Aries (along with transiting Jupiter and Uranus) could make for a milestone moment.
One for the books?

from Anne : June 3, 2010 at 12:59 pm Hi Shana
thanks for posting this link. The important point to look for in identifying the action of Jupiter/Uranus, in essence, is that it should bring into being, unexpectedly and usually shockingly, conditions which are entirely new. So we need to focus on that – and the Gore split certainly illustrates J/Uranus energy at work as you say. Gore was also born under the tough Saturn/Pluto conjunction in 1947 just after WW2, and Saturn/Pluto people feel the harsh grind of that combination at each aspect – we are now at the waning square (from the 1982 conjunction) which is part of the Grand Cross pattern with Jupiter/Uranus in Aries. As I put it in another article on this site, written a year ago:
“The Jupiter-Uranus predilection for seeing no limits, leaping before it looks and challenging the established order expressed through the filter of the rash, angry impetuousness of Aries and locked with the harsh, power-driven determination not to budge of the Saturn-Pluto square, offers a difficult and dangerous picture……”
http://jupitermeetsuranus.wordpress.com/2009/10/31/jupiter-meets-uranus-a-few-thoughts-on-the-201011-encounter/
This is validated today with news of the gun massacre of 13 people (including the killer) and the serious injury of many others in Cumbria, England, UK, by an apparently mild-mannered man who broke through any limit of acceptability (Jupiter/Uranus in Aries) and acted out the worst side of the Saturn/Pluto combination – mass murder. (check out Reinhold Ebertin “The Combination of Stellar Influences” (AFA) p188)
And a nation born under Saturn/Pluto – Israel – is currently attracting international condemnation for its treatment of people of goodwill trying to bring humanitarian aid (the plus side of Jupiter/Uranus in Aries) to ordinary citizens suffering under the Gaza blockade.
Here you see an example of the Jupiter/Uranus in Aries energy field, set in its Saturn/Pluto context, operating at three levels at once: the personal, the community, and the wider collective.
“As above, so below” in all its awesome truth….
